Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

100 db average is VERY loud and definitely a bad idea for long periods of time.

However, measured live performance db levels at the listener's seat do hit around 112db, and this is true for unamplified orchestral as well as amplified rock. Have you ever heard an opera singer up close, in a practice room for example? Or even a piano! Yowza! If the peak is about 15db more than the "average" (for that thirty seconds or so) then the average would be about 98db at the seat.

Thus, although you may listen most of the time at 80db at the seat there may be times when the "average" could be more around 100db.

For 98db speakers, at 2m, in a typical living room of 400 square feet or so, I'd estimate that more like 20W+ would be necessary to do 100db average with 10-15db headroom.
