I'm not very experienced with Horns, in fact the only ones I've ever owned were some Speakerlab Khorns built, in 1975, from their plans. I built them and loved 'em, so I was far from unbiased as to their sound, but I did "a lot" of experimentation in the years that I had them. Bolting the mouth of the mid-horn to a braced baffle certainly helped, and I subsequently used a stiff oil based chalk between the flange and the baffle which seemed to sound to my ears (still in my 20's) a lot better. I thought that it might be analogous to a bronze bell being damped by touching the bell's rim. I had thought about covering the whole assembly, but never did it. On the other hand, the Speakerlab horns were much better reinforced than many midrange horns that I've seen, they were very impressive, heavy castings that (I believe) Speakerlab's Pat Snyder designed with exactly that in mind.
