K-Horn Mid-range alternative horns/drivers

I know this is a much-discussed topic, but I'd be interested in what options people recommend for substitutions for the Klipsch K55-V and the variety of horns to which it can be attached--K-400, Altec 511B, ALK Engineering Trachorn.
Many use various Altec (288 series, 902 series, 511B, 1005) or JBL (don't know where to start here) drivers and horns, but many of these have a 500Hz cut-off spec while the K-hoprn is supposed to cut off at 400 Hz. Is this a problem? Can it be gotten round with custom crossovers?
