...and that's one reason we use the larger driver for bass only.And probably you're correct about using a larger driver for the bass being better, but you asked initially about adding an identical 8"er to the same baffle.
Do it! I'd put the new driver as close to the floor as reasonably possible for more floor reinforcement of the bass.
