Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

Re: Is the heil amt worth building around? -sure!

I have a pair of AMT1s which sound very good! That tweeter provides a sense of realism that I don't get out of my Fostex single driver speakers, though the single drivers provide better soundstage. I would estimate the efficiency of the AMT1s at somewhere around 93db.

OTOH, the woofer performance, and the integration between the woofer and tweeter are not great. I rebuilt the xovers with polyprop caps and that helped, but the bass is still a little flabby, and sometimes you can really hear the transition between the two drivers.

Somebody well known in the audio biz (Paul Joppa maybe???)uses a pair of these with "faster" woofers and reworked crossovers. I saw that on Web site somewhere. The stock xover pads the tweeter down a good bit, so the right woofer choice could yield a more efficient package. The trick would be to find a woofer that has a similar "voice" to the tweeter near the xover point, as the stock woofer does not match very well.
