This afternoon, I pried open the crossover of one of my old stephens tru-sonic 206-axa 15" co-axials with the objective of re-capping it to protect the tweeter from accidental damage. I know the crossover point should be around 1600 Hz .I can't make out what the cap or coil values are because they appear to be semi-potted (although I guess I could cut the leads and measure individual component values
Unless I'm mistaken (can't make out the complete circuit because of the black muck), the woofer appears to be run wide open and the tweeter looks to have a second order high pass on it.
Is this good enough for domestic use or can I do better ? What do other co-axials of the same vintage use (altec, tannoy etc .. )?
I'm wondering if by putting a low-pass on the woofer, I can cut-down on cone breakup artifacts in the midrange, cleaning up the sound? I'm also wondering if a zobel on the woofer might help.
Thanks
