Agreed. In fact, their testing at lower frequencies where lobing was largely removed from the equation was most telling: "...we observed that at 500 Hz there was no clear winner. We heard differences with all filters but all came close to the REF."
This tells me that power response was likely the dominant factor in their observed differences.
Chalk up another point for controlled directivity and coaxials.
