I found switching to AER's (I'm not sure which I have exactly, but I think they are the same as the lowest end model offered for the Oris) from Lowther DX-3's solved the Lowther shout problem for me, and adding the crown diffusers to the long brass phase plugs made the "sweet spot" a bit less pin-point. I'm not sure the AER drivers would offer the the max SPL you'd like, but they sure sound better than the Lowther drivers.
