You need to know the resistance of the field coil. This could be anything from several Ohms to several kOhms, which will require voltages from few to several hundred volts. There is no universal power supply that would cover all possible voltage and current requirements.

For low resistance coils, 5 V and 12 V computer power supplies may be useful. 500-700 Ohm coils can be powered from a wall outlet through full wave rectifier and RC filter. For kiloOhms, a step-up transformer will be needed.
