I think that as a general rule of thumb, we should be spending as much money on listening to live musical performances as we do on our audio systems . . . and if we are actually playing an instrument and/or singing, so much the better. I don't know about you fellows, but my wife has much less resistance to spending money on enjoyment of live performances or music education than to buying Yet Another Piece of Equipment or another recording . . . and I think that I am definitely better off as a result of generally complying with her wishes in that regard. When I first became interested in audio, I didn't really understand what a live hall performance of (acoustic) music sounded like. I am now easier to please where audio is concerned, and now I definitely get greater satisfaction for less money than was the case in the past. As always, your mileage may vary . . . .
