You may be right about it upsetting the radiation pattern, but it's never sounded better!The next version will have none mounted on the front but will have 2 mounted on the sides, in an open-rear baffle that'll be winged (but less so than the current version) and topped. That unit will be the base for a much-narrower main system.
It sure is fun!
