High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

While they are not extremely high efficiency, I have been impressed by the combination of my Vandersteen 1Cs and Cary cad-300sei integrated. My amp is the earlier 11wpc version; the 90db efficiency and nominal 8-ohm (10 ohm high, 6 ohm low) load of the speakers matches up quite nicely with the 4-ohm output impedance of the amp. The speaks sound natural and unstrained, with healthy (though not sloppy) lower frequencies, and they image beautifully. Until recently, I was not able to place them optimally. Once they were where they wanted to be vs. where they needed to be, things really opened up. For around $700 I couldn't be more impressed. I am interested in trying something a little higher up the food chain, such as a pair of SAP Trios, Proac Response 1SCs or Reference 3As, however, I will definitely keep the Vandersteens.
