Re: Karlson Tuned Pipe

I tried a couple tuned pipes with k-slot terminations and they did not perform well - no real bass. Of two possible slot orientations, the orientation with the slot opening at the bottom worked the best, but not nearly as good as a simple rectangle located at the bottom. I thought it might distribute or widen the tuning, but it mostly acted as a short vented pipe. With the vent opening upward (wide at the top) or downward, the effective pipe length was about half that of the enclosure height.

I suspect that the karlson's performance results from a unique combination of design elements including the tapered slot, reflex-like tuning, shelf and driver positioning relative to the slot (i.e., tilted driver behind the slot). It is very unlikely that you can borrow just one element (like the tapered slot) of the Karlson and have it perform like a Karlson.

The B-series EV's perform well on OBs or closet-size IB's and BR's.
