The crossover frequency for the SE 308 is the same as the Hartsfield, 400Hz for low input power. Later Hartsfields crossed to the 375 at 500 Hz.The 18" LF diaphragm is also a conical horn that provides some loading down to this frequency; more so than the (can't resist the Spoonerism with reference to Gizmo on the potty) Fartshield's horn and lens. If crossing over at an octave higher, 800Hz, then the unavoidable misbehavior of the cone in that octave will be heard.
