Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

Watts

I've been using Iwata horns and Onken Grand with Altec drivers for some time now in combination with SET monoblocks of 20 Watts. Somehow this din'r work well. Dynamics were lacking, bass as well and i could hardly open up the amp. The manufacturer put some resistors on the pre-amps outputs and the sound became considerably better. Still it wasn't satisfactory. For some strange reason I thought that I didn't have enough Watts to drive the speakers properly. Strange because right now i am playing with Sets of 9 Watts and it's all there: pressure, ease, dynamics, bass etc.

My question is is 20 or 40 Watts too much with this kind of system so that the sound sort of implodes or should it be possible? I was just about to order a Set with two parallel 211's per block giving a total
of 40 Watts but I'm not that sure anymore.

Pictures of my speakers can be found with postings under the monnicker Grutte Pier.
