See if you can find a pair of vintage BIC Venturi Formula 1 speakers. They are almost exactly the size you mentioned and put out quite a bit of bass for speakers of this size. I use a pair that I picked up many years ago at a yard sale as test speakers on my workbench. They have rubber surrounds on the 8" woofers so no foam rot problems. Not sure of the efficiency but unless you really like to blast the music they should work well - especially in a small room. I was running them last night with a Magnavox EL-84 console amp (probably about 12 watt per channel) that I modded and they filled a much larger room with sound quite well.
