I concur that fullrange-driver speakers sound shockingly good, especially in smaller rooms where their limitations -- limited output, lower efficiency, breakup at higher volume levels, reduced scale -- are less exposed.You can find classic european alnico drivers here and there, or get some Tangband, Fostex, etc. stuff. The OB plus subwoofer arrangement can be VERY satisfying. A cheap powered sub from Parts Express and a pair of FRs stuck in some pine boards may be all you decide you really need. (OB without something on the bottom is just toooooo lightweight in my opinion.)
