Jim Pearce (the originator of this thread) said that the current vinyl and CDs were unlistenable. Therefore, the fact that your early mint pressings on vinyl sound just fine is irrelevant. How one acquires early mint pressings (buy them 30 years ago and store them in a bank vault, perhaps?) is however an interesting question. You couldn't have bought them back when they came out, and been playing them ever since, because they would sound no more mint than mine do nowadays.For CDs the two titles I mentioned were produced from nth generation tapes back in 1986 by ABKCO. Even ABKCO now admit that they don't sound very good.
