Nevertheless, other than Sony wanting this to happen: why pay Sony any royalties for hybrid discs, when many Sony/Philips' patents for Compact Disc have already begun expiring in a number of countries? Then factor in that hybrid discs are far costlier to manufacture, and the average consumer might not see a perceptible difference between either.It doesn't make much business sense to favor any current/future option allowing for lower profit margins, even if you're Sony.
