There's no reason you can't use a different streamer with the FiiO S15 because it has a DAC input. It also has both an I²S output and a coax digital for those who want to use a different DAC. It's an extremely versatile component.

Moreover, it has the latest top-of-the-line AKM DAC chipset. Therefore, it's definitely a good solution, and a very cost effective platform when you consider all its capabilities. In other words, it's a single box that can do it all, or it can do things separately if you want.

It's obviously not a component that you prefer, but for me, it works just fine, and sounds very good. It does all the digital things that I want to do without connecting a computer to my audio system. I think it's hard to beat for a thousand dollars, but I could be wrong.
