Do you have an optical disc player at present?
Depending on your budget, I would suggest a good DAC/network streamer instead which will future proof you for whatever direction you wish to go in. You can use an existing DVD player or your existing CD player and hook up your laptop/PC to the DAC via USB and playback files you have ripped or downloaded (if you also want to go down John's suggestion of a media player). Modern DACs are much more immune to source jitter than DACs of the past, so a good DAC will go a long way to upgrading your existing source.
A word of caution on the purchasing high resolution material....
You need to be very careful in choosing your provider to be sure you are genuinely buying a true high resolution file made from a high resolution source; depending on the source of your high resolution files, you can end up with high resolution files that are simply upsampled versions of a lower resolution file. In other words, unless there is a stated guarantee of the original source resolution, you shouldn't expect that by paying more for 24/192 that you are getting a different source from the 24/96 version....or even 16/44 version.
Even on Blu Ray Audio discs, the stereo soundtrack is often just 24/48. You can convert between PCM and DSD as well - commercial DSD recordings are often done in PCM for ease of editing before conversion to DSD so depending on the provenance of your files, you might not actually be hearing any real benefit.
Caveat emptor!
