RE: Modwright Oppo vs stock?

I've had the ModWright/Oppo 105 (not 205)) for years and couldn't be happier. I kept the 105 in stock form until I got a good fix on its sound, and then sent it to ModWright. BIG improvement, and that's just the beginning. The unit is very receptive to tube rolling. Best sounding 6SN7 IME is not the 3 NOS Sylvanias/GEs I tried but the current Sophia. Avoid the boring CV-181 tho it shows up in ModWright ads.

By the same token, the unit is amenable to interconnect (balanced Clear Day) and power cable switching, the latter especially the tubed ModWright power supply. I made a short PC from Oyaide Black Mamba wire to link the PS to one of my PSAudio regenerators. Again, worthwhile difference.

I'm strictly old-school, use the ModWright/Oppo to play CDs and SACDs, 2 channel only. Works for me.

Oh, almost forgot. After-sale support from ModWright has been superb.
