Well I don't know about Steve's unit but my 205 while not totally cool but is definitely not hot or close to hot. I would say it is slightly warm.
By the way my judgement on improved performance is based on listening to very specific sections on what I call my long-standing tests discs. I have some for massed string tone, one in particular for inner or rear of the soundstage articulation and definition, several for "Is it still musical when all manner of sonic hell breaks loose." I also try to predict what musical passage should like on a particular disc if the unit
