What dbpoweramp can do when ripping to a given format is automatically create an i-tunes copy at the same time . You only need this if you use i-tunes e.g. if you have an i-phone and want to transfer the music to that.

If I understand your message you play your files from a Sony player.This will play files of many common formats , whether one of the Apple formats or FLAC, DSD etc.

i-tunes does not convert files per se , it is the Apple music management system which uses Apple's proprietory codecs for music files (AIFF, ALAC).

I have not heard of any downside to dbpoweramp creating that I-tunes copy but, as I have said, you only need it if you are a user of i-tunes. Of course if you let dbpoweramp create the i-tunes files which you are not going to use then there is a downside in storage terms.

BTW, it is FLAC not FLAK ( Free Lossless Audio Codec).
