No reason at all unless you are worried that it isn't working correctly or just have an enquiring mind.

Taking the latter as my starting point I have now tried a completely different computer source running another copy of the Qobuz desktop app with a different version of Windows 10. I still get 17 not 16 bits.

So I am wondering if this is a side effect of ABS (adaptive bit streaming) when accessing bit rates lower than the maximum given that there is probably a common output format for all streams, rather like UHF B&W and colour TV once had (i.e. the difference was made at the receiver not transmission end). Could this apparently non-standard format be the result? NB: the 17 bit word length only occured after a recent upgrade to the app promulgated by Qobuz.

Any experts on ABS out there?
