I much prefer the Apple Lightning port which has reversible orientation compared to micro-USB which always 'sticks' if you get the orientation wrong. They also stick if you don't get them aligned just perfectly.
If Apple goes with USB-C on future iPhones as they did on the MacBook, that will be fine as USB-C ports also accommodate either orientation.
This may seem trivial but it makes a big difference in how easy the plug is inserted w/o having to see what you're doing or fumbling to get it aligned just-so.
