Yes, Shorter's tunes speak to me on a level beyond Duke or Monk, especially the ballads. There was a reason Blakey and then Miles hired Shorter, used him as a sort of arranger and adopted all his compositions into their cannon. He had a knack for harmonic resolution and melodic direction that led to some of the greatest music I've ever heard.
