RE: SACD format "dead and buried'?

I think Pohlman is just ignorant and out of date.

a) DOWNLOADS are already on the way out. In their place, the market ... esp the mass pop market ... is moving to streaming services like rdio, spotify etc ... where you get acccess to 10 million tracks for $10 per month or whatever. Or force-fed adverts like a radio station. The quality is even worse than downloads, and most people don't care and lap it up.

b) PHYSICAL FORMATS will always exist for those who prefer things tactile. This is much like the book market ... there are hardcover editions, then softcover for the mid-range market, and finally eBooks for the bottom of the market ... the latter have high volume (and alas not so high in revenue).

c) As for SACD, there are more titles coming out in the 2012 than I have EVER seen before. There are so many new releases, it is getting really expensive to keep up with them, especiially the hundreds of new releases coming out of Deutsche Grammaphon, Warner, Erato etc in Japan.
