I own a modified Sony XA777ES, and the build quality is better than the 5400 - but the 5400 in stock form sounds nicer. I also own a SCD-C333ES, so I have owned three Sony SACD players.

I don't have any reliability issues with the 5400. To say that "SCD-XA9000ES SACD player, bought in 2004, which has better build quality and reliability than the SCD-XA5400ES" means nothing to me.
