For the exhorbitant cost of upgrades to the 5400ES you can buy a matching Sony receiver and obtain all the excellent benefits of HATS via HDMI ,low cost cable, lowest jitter ,mch sound, etc. .Even if you do not want to go MCH for far better more realistic performance, the stereo sound is excellent. To pay more than the cost of the original component for an upgrade IMO is stupid. I am not against modifications only the rip-off priced ones. After all I used a very highly modified Marantz CD94 for approx. 20 years but the mod. cost was only approx 35% of the retail price of the player.
