I hardly think the theoretical superiority of one or the other matters all that much. The issue is the availability of musical material in the different formats and whether the particular transfer is successful. There is a lot of older source material that sounds way better on vinyl than on CD or SACD, probably because the master tape has degraded with age. There is a LOT of current classical and jazz recordings that are only available on CD, and some available on SACD, that one can never get on vinyl. I am particularly impressed with classical SACDs that were recorded in that format (i.e., modern recordings).

If you care about sound quality and have an interest in all kinds of music, you need to have the ability to play both digital and analogue formats.
