I attended a fine concert over the weekend that featured Pentatone's Arabella Steinbacher treating us to a stirring Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.
Adams was not on the program but his likeness was omnipresent at Davies Hall. Adams is being featured in concerts during March being billed as "American Mavericks". A John Adams SFS-commissioned work "Absolute Jest" will be premiered (I'll resist saying "world premier") March 15 with Adams on hand. He will be lecturing at other symposiums as well. And, of course, the SACD "Harmonielehre" was being strongly marketed.
And if you haven't already pick up the Pentatone SACD "Music For A Tome of War" by the Oregon Symphony. Beautifully played and recorded it features works from Ives, Britten, Vaughan Williams and John Adams' "The Wound Dresser", a 20 minute symphonic work with baritone.
