I have not said it is the proper way to do MCH but it is the best way for me,(so I disagree with the experts who say it is mandatory for same volume from all speakers) I do not want to hear direct sound from the rear, only ambience I find many discs have too much volume from rear channels. As Jan -Eric Persson Opus 3 says, you should only be aware of the rear speakers when they are turned off. If the front floor standing speakers have adequate bass there is no need for a sub-woofer again IMO. I am also not convinced of the need for a centre channel speaker, OK for HT or for a very few three channel recorded discs.
