All good points. But my question would be why do "some" of these classic recordings during the golden age sound so real, and the newer perhaps better balanced recordings cannot in any shape or form match the feel of late 50's and early 60's.
Even the mono recordings have that realness to them that newer processed multi track recordings cannot capture. Also keep in mind back then you hand everyone in the room making music as a team. Today they lay tracks down the producer mixes them, they don't even have to be in the same country to make a recording. You lose something making "canned" music.
To me it's like listening to speakers that technical sound good, yet you sit there and your not moved, same for gear, why the soul, the feel.
As "Elvis" said in 1955 recording "that don't move me" I think that line nails it.
