To me performances come first and I suppose that I am not as facy
as you are when it comes to reproduce accurately every details and placement of instruments. I do not dissect recording techniques and reproductions I tend to look at the overall effect and if it is good then I am happy. And to me these old recordings do have something really special which is rarely the case with todays productions
I don't think that I am alone in admiring these early recordings, one just as to look at the multiple favorable reviews available on the web.
But as I mentioned first, I cannot think of many performances recorded by the like of CC or Pentatone that can match these 50's and 60's Living Stereo/Presence masterpieces. At the end of the day the music always moves me more than the recording techniques. I'll take Reiner before Fisher any day.
Living Stereo/Presence recordings have given me more goose bumps
than all the modern classical recording put together.
But then I am old fashioned, I still think that musically the 50's/60's
where the high point in modern music, and this apply to jazz/pop and classical, but this is another subject all together.
