Dead and buried? Nah. Just go to Ebay and see how many reel to reel players currently have bids on them. I see a lot of them popping up on our local Craig's List. I don't think people are buying them to look at them.
Sure new recorded tapes are difficult to buy. Like records though, most people are buying used. I listen to vinyl more than anything else, and am always on the lookout for good used records. It's been quite awhile since I bought a new one.
Heck, even this site has a section devoted to tape called "Tape Trail". Check it out, there's plenty of interest in reel to reels.
All I'm saying is there's a small niche of listeners who still appreciate listening to reel to reels. It's certainly not dead and buried.
