I had an early production SA14 v1 which was known to have problems which mine did which had an issue not being able to read discs at time and then the disc spinning very fast trying to read and then would say "Cnt Read" in the display.I sent the unit sent once for service to Service Wide Technologys and for awhile it was ok and started acting up again.
After this I contacted Marantz Japan who acknowledged this was a firmware issue and was corrected in later models. I contacted Marantz America and they agreed to give me a brand new machine and since this time for over 3 years the machine has been flawless and sounds great.
I hope you can get it sorted out as the SA14 is one of the best audio purchases I have ever made.
