Nifty little songs, well-constructed in an almost workmanlike manner, yet earnest and engaging ... with compositions in the ballad, folk rock, and blues vernaculars. Not an ambitious production -- i.e., simple arrangements, often just a voice, guitar and drums predominating -- but VERY well recorded.Cut from the same cloth as her other two SACD's, "Yola" and "Early Hours," -- but this one is, at least in my opinion, a more effective set, a bit brighter in tone and more up tempo overall. Of the three, this is the most consistently pleasing, though I'd hasten to add that I am not an authority on McEvoy's material in general. There's also a nice plangent take on Marvin Gaye's "Oh Mercy Me."
