Bad ribbon cable connection on ribbon between transport and main board, the one nearest the front. I have reseated the cable so as to not produce noise. If I have future troubles with this, I will replace the ribbon.
I'm pretty sure this was it, as I was able to reproduce the noise when I jiggled the cable. I think it only occurred on sacd as it is passed in the outer two cables, while cd is farther inward with solid connection. It was the outer two cables in the ribbon that made noise when I jiggled.
I've unplugged and replugged this cable many many times due to all the reworkings and modifying I have done on the player. And this all eventually caught up to me.
Hopefully now I can just let the player play and leave it be!!!
