Try some of the Vanguard Classics. The Plow That Broke the Plains, Handel's Water Music, and Gottschalk's Night In the Tropics are aces!Good things have been said about the Sonny Clark Trio recording on Audio Fidelity. Not sure if you have it but give it another listen if so. It has promise but my Sony Xa777Es only goes so far with it. You may have better results. I prefer the MPS OPs or Chesky's NY Sessions.
"Halfnote" in a recent thread asked about the Sam Cooke recordings and later made a comparison with the Verve "Ella & Louis". I have the latter and after listening to it again, I realize now I never gave it enough credit. My equipment has changed somewhat however since I last listened to it though.
