HowdySince SACDs are basically DVDs and share the two layer construction with DVDs I'm not sure I buy your distinction. Also as far as I know the whole Philips SACD-1000 boondoggle wasn't caused by two layer weirdness...
I'm just speculating here but I don't know that we have any info that SACD transports fail more than DVD transports, I have to wonder how many people just throw out their old DVD players if they have problems, i.e. at current prices most are essentially throw away units.
