Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

I'm in a similar position...

I have Pioneer DV-47ai universal player, and I am generally very satisified with its performance... and having access to SACD and DVD-A recordings is quite nice.

My next component purchase will be the best Redbook-only CD player that I can find (and afford). The vast majority of my music is on CD, and it will likely stay that way. I listen mostly to rock, and already own most of the Hi-Res disks that I want to own. I will keep the Pioneer to play Hi-Res and movies.

That said, if you listen to a lot of classical music, a strong case could be made for a nice SACD player. There are a LOT of great classical recordings available on SACD (I own a few of those).

Unless you are a classical listener, I would recommend fence-sitting on Hi-Res and get yourself the best Redbook playback that you can.

Cheers
