There are many worthy selections here, but I wouldn't want you to miss a couple of my favorites, which I have mentioned before, but not recently on this forum:Salamandar Pie, by Jay Leonhart ... witty, engaging caberet jazz, wonderful lyrics with lots of pathos and humor, slick bass violin and piano, absolutely outstanding sonics.
This is Always by Eden Atwood ... superb collection of classic American songs, interpreted with effortless style and sensitivity by Atwood in front of a small jazz ensemble. Again, exemplary sonics.
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong ... how'd they make such on old record sound soooo good? Again, classic songs, but this time, delivered by the two great masters.
The Vultures by Joe Weed ... instrumental interpretations of American Surf music, spagetti-western themes, and even "The Alley Cat", presented via acoustic guitar with all kinds of ear candy. Demonstration-quality sonics.
Second the motions for "Blue Country Heart," and "Sea Change."
Honorable mentions: The Zombies (wonderful British Invasion rock by a band of very considerable talent, neatly crafted songs that make you wonder why they didn't achieve the status of the Beatles and Stones); Vince Guardali Trio Charlie Brown Christmas (no matter the time of year, this record features wonderful small ensemble jazz and piano riffs of such inestimable sweetness it almost breaks your heart). One more quickie, Brubeck's Time Out ... the old war horse brished up and sounding just dandy.
