New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

A carefully considered response.

"There's nothing on your list that was recorded less than 30 years ago...."

There are in fact some SACD reissues from what appears to be your forbidden time zone that deserve mention, and not merely because the conductors got it right--including Paray's Suppe and Auber Overtures (Mercury Living Presence), Stokowski's Virgil Thomson (Vanguard, OOP), the Howard H. Scott-produced Columbias (the Szell Richard Strauss and the "On the Waterfront" suite on the Bernstein Conducts Bernstein disc), the Reiner Bartok and R. Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben" (RCA Living Stereo), and the Fiedler/Wild Gershwin collaboration (RCA LS), 5 by Monk by 5 (Analogue Productions)...and that's just for starters.

I'll go so far as to say that some of these recordings constitute virtual recording and mixing learning clinics for contemporary engineers and producers. Of course, that may not be an objective enough judgment for someone who apparently considers worthwhile only recordings that have been made in this century.
