The first thing is you may be outputting the audio from different connections for CD (a digital coax or toslink connection) versus the 5.1 channel analog connections required for playing SACD. I experience this same differential. I do however believe it is not so much the difference between formats as it is the way the particular disc is mixed/mastered. I have several titles within each format that have distinct volume differences.

Do you have an iPod? If so you might notice an option under "Settings" called "Sound Check". This feature, when turned on, is to equalize the volume between various recordings.
