Silly name, I know. It may come from what it does with MCH DVD-A when there is no stereo mix on the disc. In that case it takes the MCH and combines the channels into stereo. Of course, calling it "stereo out" would have been too complicated :-).
Hope this fixes it. If the MCH configuration has the front speakers set to small, then the signal to them is high-pass filtered at the subwoofer crossover frequency. That would explain the missing bass.
