sony 9000ES skipping?

I'm trying out one of these and it was working ok on sacd for a while. Now it sounds like it's mistracking or something. The first thing I noticed is that the sacd layer sounded almost like it was playing at a slightly faster tempo than the CD layer. Then it started noticeably skipping. This was on a Prada Digital recording of the Kocian Quartet playing Haydn's String Quartets Op. 74.

I switched to Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks and it's not skipping but the timing seems a little off or something. It's kind of like the timing of the instruments are all slightly different so that everything's not lining up exactly right timewise.

Are these the typical symptoms of the drive mechanism going bad? I'm very sensitive to musicians playing out of time and I never noticed a problem on the vinyl or CD versions of the Dylan.

Thanks for your help.
