In Reply to: Curious how do you get "Why berate a friend" from "Y b r8 a friend?" posted by Teresa on February 7, 2007 at 19:54:13:
Y= why, at least in my West Coast American accent
B= be, or bee as you had.
Eight= ate
R + ate = rate
Y(why) B(be)+ R + 8(ate) = berate
English really is a crazy language. I used to live in Asia and their frustrations with English are easy to understand for me now.
