Very nice small jazz ensemble/female vocal recording of classic American songs. Sonics are very, very good -- nice soundstaging and depth. I could quibble and say that Sutton's voice doesn't have quite the presence that it ought to. There's a subtle lack of focus and a slighly recessive quality to the lead vocals that I thought would be remedied by turning up the volume, but not quite. Overall, a fine recording though. In terms of interpretation and musical presentation, they leave nothing as they find it. For instance, "Happy Days are Here Again" and "You Are My Sunshine" seem to fall though some kind of looking glass to become pensive and somber exercises in angst. I am reminded of some of Patricia Barber's interpretative approach.
