I love reading about modified SACD players, and I'd sure like to hear yours.My Sony XA777ES was modified by Ricardo Schultz (EVS) and the headphone circuit was totally disconnected. I'm not surprised that Kyle did that to yours. Ric and Kyle know each other. It doesn't concern me though, as I have no need for it (although I do have some HD-600s).
Mine also has a little click if you change layers. Nothing to worry about - a sign of a pretty open analogue stage.
I understand the "mad scientist" bit - mine's a little like that.
